One of the reasons he touches & inspires me so much is because of his details to tiny and almost "invisible" cultural details. Especially his thoughts during flight. So realistic and so observant. The author that gets closest to him is Richard Bach. (Famous for his Jonathan Livingston Seagull) R. Bach also wrote plenty of other books in which aviation played the main role. it is this mix of awe and focused on reality narration that make it so powerful.
Yes, Antoine de Saint Exupery was one of my favorites back when I was driving helicopters for the U.S. Army. I think he touches the heart of all aviators at some level.
