About Me
I'm following my lifelong dream of becoming a writer. In June 2008 I attended a writing conference and joined ACFW. I immediately began reading books on the craft of writing. In October of 2008 I started my blog, WordVessel, that chronicles my journey into the world of writing. In November 2008 I participated in my first NaNoWriMo, finishing the rough draft of my first novel. My book is currently being considered by a publisher, and I'm taking a writing break to catch up things pushed aside during the writing of my novel!
My Published Books or Favorite Books
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, Jan Karon's Mitford series, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Anne of Green Gables

The whole process underscored for me the importance of the first few pages of any novel. Here is the… Continue

Louder Than Words

In my study of the craft, I realized that the same is true for our characters...

How To Write Character Emotion - Curiosity

Is curiosity an emotion, or is it a state of mind—part of the intellect? Just curious...

Synonyms: inquisitiveness, interest, questioning (think about a child), prying, snoopiness, intrusiveness, nosiness, intrigue

Once again, I believe there are degrees of curiosity, but this time from the synonyms that have a positive slant to those that are more negative: desire to learn, inquisitiveness, intrigue, interest, questioning, intrusiveness, snoopiness, nosiness, prying

Quote: "Curiosity is lyin… Continue

How To Write Character Emotion - Contentment

Ahh...contentment. There's nothing quite like it.

Let's dig into it with our brains and see if we can find fresh ways to convey it on the page.

Synonyms: satisfaction, gratification, happiness, pleasure, peace, ease, serenity, comfort

I happen to believe that there are ...
