- Now, that's a hard question to answer: author or book lover? I think I would actually have to say I am a book lover first, an author second and only, very recently! I have loved books and words all my life and sometimes I think surely if I live to be 200, I will not even begin to make a dent in all I want to read! Surely heaven is a great big library in the sky that is filled with nothing but endless time and books!
Although my book, published at the beginning of Sept. is nonfiction, I have enormous respect for good fiction writers. I cannot even begin to imagine myself developing a plot line and following it through, much less creating all the details which make any story so rich and readable. I just don't have the kind of mind that would enable me to write fiction successfully.
Although....now that I'm thinking of it, there certainly were parts of my memoir in which I found myself imagining all kinds of dialogue and alternate scenarios I would have happily substituted for the real thing!
I am, by profession, an educational psychologist though I am currently "retired." Retirement came early for me, following a work-related auto accident that totalled my truck, left my body unscratched and scrambled my brain just enough to catapult me down the rabbit hole. It's been five years since the accident and I am still working my way back, pretty sure at this point that I will simply never return to the place from which this journey began. Being an optimist and a seeker by nature, on good days, that is okay and I just embrace the new me and see where these changes lead me. On the not-so-good days my usual good humor has been known to be replaced by a moody sort of petulance that leaves me wishing for my old life back.
The good news is both pre and post injury, I've no tolerance for moody petulance--in myself or others--so, I kick my own butt and keep moving ahead!
Although I lived and worked in Alaska for nearly 20 years, I now live in Colorado with my two four-legged "boys," who on the days I don't kick butt fast enough, make sure to do it for me!

How's Colorado? Cold? I grew up in Wyoming so I know how fun the weather can be in that part of the country during the winter. It makes a lovely Christmas, though. I now live in California and Christmas just isn't the same without the snow.
