This is a new poem I've written and would like to share with all of you. It's a poem that was inspired from a bunch of labels that were in my pantry. I hope you enjoy...
Food Labels
Fifty percent less fat
Than the regular
With no hydrogenated oils,
Preservatives or cholesterol
Stand out for attention.
Vanilla cake with
Mystery words are out of the mix.
Fair trade cup of the old Joe's kind has perks and
Salt of the sea and sauce of the soy
With red wine, balsamic, and rice vinegar,
Make a splash in my book.
Macaroni of the bleached kind
Is now discriminated against
The dark wheat kind,
And yet some
Wheat Thins really aren't
What they claim.
It all comes down to a label
Because nothing processed
Is something gained.
NaNo, or National Novel Writing Month has just recently ended, and I'm proud to say that I was a participant this year and completed a 50,000 word novel. Yeah!
If you've never done NaNo, I suggest you try it at least once in your life because it was just so fun! Now, granted, it can seem like a daunting task to write a novel in just one month. But I must say it can be done, I'm living proof.
Now, if you don't know NaNo, or how to even go about writing a novel in a month, let me give you a bit of the basics. First, DO NOT under any circumstances allow yourself to edit any work that you are writing. Your main goal is to just write. So get your Mr/Ms. Editor, tie them up, and leave them in the broom closet for one month while you write. Second, keep yourself focused on the goal of writing every day ( or at least every other day in the real world). If you write every day, you only need to come up with 1667 words. That's only 3 typed pages! That's it, no more. Unless of course, you are on a writing streak, then by all means, WRITE!
It really isn't that bad. Hard, yes it can be. You have to make a commitment and keep at it. I'm not going to lie and tell you that I faithfully wrote 3 pages a day, because I didn't. As a matter of fact, during the last week I was writing almost three times that (5,000 words a day). But I did it with a lot of help and support from my family and friends.
And that brings me to my next way of helping you write a novel in a month. Find a friend, an email buddy, a writing buddy, the guy next door-- who ever to help encourage you to keep on keeping on. It makes the whole process worth it because you have someone who believes in you. And frankly, I didn't want to let those people down along with myself and that at times kept me going.
If you ever do NaNo, you will get to know a bunch of people you might not have met and that can be fun. In some cases, it could turn out to be love. Yes, you heard me right. Two people who joined NaNo met and actually fell in love at one of the regional NaNo meet and greets. So that's pretty cool.
So these are just a few ways you can write a novel in month. I hope you all do it. It's fun!
