WRITING STYLE

Louis L'Amour westerns do not stand out as truly great works of fiction but, as the covers state, L'Amour had over 80 million copies of his books in print worldwide. The object of being a writer (other than some measure of personal satisfaction) is to move past the agent, past the publisher, and into the hands of the reading audience. 80 million copies say that quite nicely
.
Elmore Leonard, the author of Glitz and other popular detective thrillers, commented on what technique he used to keep the action in his books moving so quickly. He said, "I try to leave out the parts that readers tend to skip."

Things I write are intended to transport the reader to a life totally unlike their own. The other day I glanced at a story which sounded interesting. it was extremely well written, but that didn't seem to make it any more enjoyable. The author could have mentally placed me in the scene with only half the words simply by allowing me to use my own imagination. Join me as we let our imaginations wander; mine to tell the story and yours to put yourself into it.

BEEN DRAGGIN'?

Now that the days are shorter, have you noticed having a harder time getting it cranked up in the morning? Do you feel like carrying a machete around so you can reach around and cut off the part that's dragging? Perhaps you feel like you were at a big party the night before but you can't remember being there.

Well, I've got good news for you. Are you aware that often times during the winter we feel really drowsy in the morning for the simple reason that your body temperature hasn't risen fast e… Continue

If Ya Got It, Flaunt It

My father once related an incident that was memorable to him. He and a friend were in a gas station mini-mart (convenience items) and a woman walked in. She purchased several items which took her to various places in the store. While she was walking around selecting her purchases, my father and his friend noticed something very interesting about her.. After she left the premises, the two men compared notes.

This woman wasn't particularly good looking but she was sexy. If ya got it, flaunt it, t… Continue

I can't think of anything. I will let my wife view it and see what she thinks; if that is all right? She is my editor/muse. I call her my curly-headed inspiration.

All I did was to follow all of the links posted on your blog, etc. until I found the excerpt and then I copied the address from explorer that got me there and pasted in the comment so that other people can paste it and go directly there. You have a WONDERFUL Blog page, I have to get a handle on that, as soon as I get time to deal with a blog. What I just did was easy.

Paidra, your book excerpt is too many clicks away from viewing it easily. It needs to be posted as such with its web address. Your writing style is very clean, and the book is a pageturner, even without pages. Great premise for a fast moving plot! Here, I'll do it for you!
